Zahter is a plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family and is native to the Mediterranean region. Zahter, which is similar to thyme, is also known as “black thyme”. 

Zahter is widely grown in Hatay, Kilis, Gaziantep and regions with Mediterranean climate in Turkey. It is usually found in mountainous areas. 

Zahter is consumed as a spice in the kitchen and as tea. 

Zahter is a plant rich in vitamins and minerals. It contains magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium, and zinc. It is also rich in antioxidants.
